You have to laugh. There were all the Parker acolytes calling Mr Cash In Whilst You Can a West Ham legend and a claret and blue hero, and behind the scenes, Scotty had the club over a barrel and was shafting the owners, the manager and the fans good and proper.
He could have gone to Turkey for £10m but Scotty was having none of that. Stoke wanted him, but Scotty didn't fancy the Potteries. No, Parker was holding out for one club and one club only, the very club that West Ham fans hate more than any other, Millwall apart.
Never mind that Tottenham were only offering £5m, never mind that this would betray the fans who had idolised him, never mind that this would put him in the same category as the reviled Defoe, Scotty was absolutely intent on joining the club his father had supported. Parker wanted to go home!
And Parker's only regrets? That he was forced to submit a transfer request meaning he sacrificed a cut of the transfer fee and that the transfer was completed 12 months behind schedule because Van der Vaart came onto the market at a knock down price at just the wrong time.
Parker deserves a place in the West Ham Hall of Fame alright, alongside Defoe, Ince, Lampard and Reo-Coker!
