Beckford Anybody?
Back in January, he was everybody's idea of the perfect signing on a Bosman, but with Leeds struggling to secure promotion from the old Third Division, is Beckford really good enough for the Prem? There are rumours that we are leading the chase to secure his services for next season but is that part of team planning for the Championship?
We know Ilan can put the ball in the net in the top division so wouldn't it be better to stick with the fox in the box you know? All we would then need is a manager that was willing to let the fox play in the box instead of out on the flanks! People will counter that Beckford can't be bad business on a free but the salary and signing on fee are sure to offset that.
Reading the Leeds boards, it sounds like we may be leading the race to capture Beckford because everybody else is running in the opposite direction. Another Mido?

Whether we sign him or not...im not really bothered.
But one thing is for sure, we are going to have to sign ALOT of players this close season with a limited budget.
Boa Morte, Gabbidon, Dyer, Franco, Ilan, and Mido's conracts are up.
& we face loosing - Green, Upson, Parker, Cole and Behrami.
That's half the squad and if you consider half of the youngsters are going to be released...it leaves us very, very slim.
With not much cash in the bank, the Davids are gonna have to wheel and deal very wisely and i'm glad we have a couple of the best wheelers and dealers in English football.
So i wouldn't say no especially as he's on a free. The problem is whether he can transfer those goals from League One into the Premiership?
The lad dosen't exactly have limited confidence, he's very cockey, so i'd say theres a good chance he could.
It's a risk signing, just like it would be signing an unknown foriegner...the only difference is, we know Jermaine Beckford. However nobody knows how he'll play in the Premier League.
I think our scouts will have a rough idea though, it's not the January transfer window where you have four weeks, it's the summer where we have over 3 months, so it would be stupid for us to rush into a risky signing. I think if we really are in for him, then he's got a big chance of doing the business for us.
I think we should keep both Ilan and Diamanti and play them at the right positions. They are both special. What they bring to the field is very hard to find. Perhaps we need a manager who can utilise them better.

Ilan has already said he's gone in may , so it would appear not to be an option.. what i would like to see are squad issues resolved asap whatever division we are in next season.
In the past we have left it late and if you have a bad start, as we did this year, it's difficult to build the team under the pressure of playing catch-up. What I do not want to see is us fruitlessly battling to hold onto players that are moving on whatever andthen engagein a mad scramble to make up the numbers.
Whether we survive or not we are into a period of squad building; might as well bite the bullet and get on with it.
Leeds fan here.
After 6 games without Beckford even looking remotely like scoring, I really do think he's showing his true colours. His goal against scum was based on pace, and a lucky finish - you won't get chances like that in the Premier League. Aside from that game and against Spurs, when he scored a tap in and a penalty, he's useless against the better defences. He looked like a pub player with an attitude problem for the past few games, so it'd be interesting to see how he'd manage to get anywhere near scoring against the better defences in the country.
It's really not worth it in my opinion, I am almost certain he'll end up warming the bench if you're lucky, and with his serious attitude, would probably do more harm than good if he was on the bench.
Anyway, hope you lot stay up and let the codheads sink back down the leagues - there's only one team in Yorkshire who deserve to be in the Premiership.
See you in a couple of years. ;)
Cheers mate. All the best to Leeds. As I've said before, I hold a deep seated loathing for Leeds going back to the Revie era but I don't want to see you in the old Division Three.
Thanks hammersfan,
It's nice to know you still love to hate us, the feelings mutual ;-)
Good luck on staying up!
Clubs such as Hull, Wigan, Portsmouth
are not what Premier league is about or where fans really want to go.
