Interesting to read that 'Arry is keen to sign Carlton Cole in January. This is the man who already has Crouch, Keene, Pavlova and a certain Jermaine Defoe but who doesn't have two fit centre halves to rub together - or a decent keeper for that matter.

So, ignoring those problems, 'Arry apparently is hunting down a crocked Carlton Cole and ignoring Upson and Green. Oh really?

So why, exactly, would the Dark Puppet Master of Spin be floating these stories to the papers? To set up a sale of Cole to one of Liverpool, Arsenal or Man Utd perhaps? I can hear him now, "Carlton wanted to leave to further his England career and we felt we could not stand in his way. However, I have honoured my pledge to the fans that we would not sell to our great rivals Tottenham Hotspurs."

And then when Upson and Green join Tottenham in a joint deal? "We had no choice other than to cash in now because the contracts of both players were running down. In the circumstances it would have been financial madness not to accept the deal as both indicated that they would join Tottenham anyway. So it was a case of losing them to Tottenham for nothing or selling them.
