Now I can just about understand how Dowd didn't send off Vidic after giving the penalty. There was an argument, a thin one I accept, for not showing red initially, but surely EVERY referee in the world would have produced the minimum of a yellow for a professional foul in the penalty box? In which case, Vidic would have gone in the second half when he belatedly received his first yellow.
Dowd should be required to explain his reasoning in front of the cameras. Either he is utterly incompetent, or he is frightened of Ferguson, or he is a cheat. O'Neill couldn't say it on camera but everybody else should say it for him!
And who else should have been shown a red? The BBC panel who have been talking for 30 minutes now and boring the pants off of everybody!

You cannot prove this as the game would have taken a difference course had Vidic picked up the initial yellow. You are purely speculating.

Okay, so it should have been a straight red. Either way, Dowd should be required to explain himself on camera. Simple question, why didn't you give Vidic a yellow when you gave the penalty?
Red card offence for anyone outside of the top four but give Dowd credit he did award a pen against Manure that in itself has put his job at risk
Vidic should have received at least 5 yellow cards and 2 reds if I counted correctly. Ferguson takes advantage of the fact that referees will not apply the rules and that's how he wins games. Referees in England destroy the game and encourage the type of play that leads to the incidents we had at the Brittania Stadium with the breaking of the leg of Ramsey.

The problem is, of course, that it seems to be essential, and that's the distasteful truth
I don't think Clough or Paisley were in the habit of criticising referees Deane and they were two of the very best. Nor did Nicholson for that matter. Or Bobby Robson. O'Neill was very restrained today and described Dowd as an "otherwise excellent referee". Ramsey also backed the decision of officials, especially Russian linesmen!
aah good old Sir Alf the man with the mastery of timely substitutions. You gotta love him. Paisley certainly is a fine example of the exception that disproves the rule
