How can Diddy David have the cheek to call for a salary cap? How much money has the guy earned himself? What would he have said if somebody had put a cap on his earnings? Basically, given his industry, it would have been "bugger off", and he would have moved abroad.
A salary cap would surely be against the law. An employer can pay an employee as much as he wants to pay him, end of. The government couldn't even stop the merchant bankers from paying massive bonuses, so there's no way that any authority in the game will be able to stand up to the likes of Real Madrid, Unreal City or Manchester United.
Basically, football runs like any other business. The Scarborough Building Society don't expect to compete on a level playing field with HBOS and the Chief Exec of the one earns a lot less than the Chief Exec of the other.
Sullivan needs to focus on West Ham and cut his cloth appropriately. I have predicted that none of Dyer, Green, Upson, Faubert or Parker will be West Ham players come next August as the squad is restructured to remove the high wage earners. That is what's behind Sullivan comments I suspect. He will blame Man City but will sell our high wage earners to get our running costs under control.

It is not so much putting a cap on individual wages.
I've never understood why footballers get blasted for their wages, we all want as much as possible don't we? Something has to be done, and unlike HF I agree with some people's ideas and would like some sort of salary cap with 5 years or so. I learnt one thing from Legally blonde, 'have a little faith'.

LOL What a stunning survey! So 46% don't think I am a negative wally and 67% think I am a West Ham fan. How many people have responded? And how do we know the results are honestly declared? And what's to stop people visiting for multiple votes? Are the Electoral Commission involved? If not, the validity of the result must be doubtful. And what about proportional representation and second preference voting?
Question: How sad must somebody be to set up the poll in the first place? God, I bet nights in the pub are great fun with him!
Anyway 8 out of ten owners who expressed a preference say their cats prefer whiskers. The cats, however, would much rather have fresh salmon!
Well if you listened to everything he said he gave some perfectly good reasons why there should be a salary cap. The main reason being, it was the only way he could think of at the moment of ensuring a healthy competition. i.e. clubs that didn't have billionaire owners standing a chance of winning the premier league. No doubt if you have got a better idea I expect he will be pleased to hear from you.
Its a brilliant idea for West Ham John, just as it would be great if the local corner shop could buy in its stock at the same price that Tesco pays to its suppliers. Sadly the world doesn't work like that does it? Sullivan can huff and puff all he likes but that won't blow the Chelsea and Man City houses down!

LOL And the reason is? Two thirds of the respondents to the stupid survey agree I am a West Ham fan! So what is the reason, great Sage (& Onion stuffing!)
I'm not sure if a salary cap will work...or even if it's legal, but something will be done.
Maybe they could cap all-round club spending, it will eventually have a knock-on effect on the wages but it would still mean that clubs can choose to save elsewhere rather than on player salaries or still give them the opportunity to have those one or two special players on high salaries and everyone else on a lower one.
Or they could just do a draw each year with one pot having the names of the chairmen in it and the other pot having the names of the clubs. At the beginning of each season, you just pick one from each and announce who will be running who e.g. "pot 1, ball no.3, Ali Al-Faraj; pot 2 ball number 7, will be running Tottenham Hotspur for this season. That would be fun.

Alright alright already. I hear what you say. A salary cap won't work. You win, i agree. They have to do something though, or the clubs with the richest owners win everything. How do we compete with that. A two tiered league. Who wants to become like the Scottish league. Maybe the market will level itself out. If the wage structure is not kept under control we may lose clubs. Perhaps that's life & death & survival of the fittest, but it will change the game.
West Ham ingrains in charge of Chelsea Stani! Well I suppose they could transfer the best players to West Ham free and on a thousand a week. Like you say it would be interesting
