Did you listen to the commentary on the Algeria v Slovenia game on Radio 5? Of all the games to award to a female commentator, this was the one! The Sunday after the Saturday before, two no mark teams in a no mark game, so dust down the woman and give her the microphone. You can hear the BBC executives discussing the schedule:
"But can we really risk it, a WOMAN commentating on a World Cup game?"
"My dear chap, the point is that NOBODY will be listening!"

Got to start somewhere unless you think there should be a bit of positive discrimination?
Thin end of the wedge as far as I'm concerned. Before you know it, half time discussion will be based on whether England are struggling because they are playing at the wrong time of the month!
As more women get involved in the game, I think this is one of the areas that will improve. It'll take time. As long as the commentary is good, I couldn't care less if it's man or woman.
I know one example where a woman is better and that is on the BBC's text commentary. Caroline Cheese is far better than 'James-Collins-is-an average-defender' Jonathan Stevenson. He is so far up himself he's come out the other side.
Oh do me a favour. When a woman gets excited she squeals or screams or squeaks. Sounds awful! It's a man's game and we should be allowed to keep it that way. We don't want to go shopping with them, they have no place inside a football stadium. And I include Karren Brady in that!
Not sure HF, never been in the presence of an excited woman. Let you know when I get married :)
And why do you have such a derogatory view of them? I think they're wonderful, best invention ever.
Wait until you've married one!
...why, don't you think I'll take up the option of the other 3 then? :)
I'm more than confident mine will be more than grateful.
