Frederic Piquionne Deal Is Madness!

This is a guy who only scored 5 goals in the Prem last season. This is a guy who has netted just 63 career league goals. This is a guy who has ticked past 30 years of age. This is a guy who we have offered a three year contract to!

Haven't the Davids learnt from the signing of McCarthy? Have Sullivan and Gold never heard of a sell by date? Or is that the point? They have to sell Cole before a certain date so they had to bring in a replacement - any replacement!

The owners were supposed to be in France for a dirty midweek break with Karren Brady to sign Remy, the new Thierry Henry. Instead they are bringing home Frederic Piquionne, the new Emile Heskey! This does not bode well! Perhaps somebody should remind Avram that, as well as reaching a Cup Final, Pompey were relegated last season!

Madness? THIS IS UPTON PARK!

Woah there now boy, this Piggyoon fellow isn't an out-and-out goalscorer, more a Kanu/goal maker type.

Can't understand giving him 3 years at 31.....

Where the hell is a right back though? Faubert should be further forward and not defending, it's not what he does.

Keep Diamanti, To suggest AG does 'fancy' him is unfair, AG only started last week and Diamanti hasn't returned from the summer break yet.

i THINK HE BRINGS ALOT TO THE TEAM AS HIS LINK UP PLAY LAST YEAR WAS EXCELLENT AND AT £1m IT IS A NO LOSE GAMBLE. HE IS BETTER THAN ILAN, SEARS AND MCCARTHY.

scored more goals than CC last season

HF it's always about scoring goals for you isn't it? Scotty Parker according to you is rubbish because he doesn't score enough goals = Piquionne according to you is useless because he doesn't score enough goals - you ARE the most negative West Ham Blogger by far - there are no blogs that come even close in the negativity stakes - didn't last long did it, you positivity? you reverted to type because you just can't help yourself. Time and time again you prove that you know nothing.... I just don't understand why there are actually some people that actually suffer your nonsense, perhaps they're just too polite?

Anyway at 1 million the fella in my book offers value you for money - and will without a doubt bring something to the team that we lack - I enjoyed the times that I watched him last year.

Sorry m8 remy.kev

It might not work out too bad if he is paired with a natural goalscorer. Cole could have banged in twice as many last year if he had a playmaker up there with him instead of expecting him to finish balls pumped up from defence. The potential is there to create a good partnership with Cole, if he stays of course. If however, Pickyanose is our sole target man, we could be in real trouble!

considering every tom dick and harry has turned us down, franco and ilan have both left and remy will turn us down to go to a bigger club i think it is a realistic signing, he played very well under grant in an average team, he adapted to the premiership very well scoring 11 goals in total, although 6 were in cups, all but one was in cups against premiership teams though! so to doctor the stats and paint the worst picture of his season is pretty vile considering he is nailed on to be one of our own.

we know he has decent technique, he can create chances and tuck away goals against the big boys, spurs and liverpool stick in my mind. he has always been a player on the fringes of a team and never got a chance to play week in week out until he got to pompey.

until he signs i doubt any rumor about length of contract or wages are even remotely true and if we are paying him 40k a week you can bet your life that the 2 davids had to pay that to get him

Perhaps the song has really gotten to me. "Fortunes Always Hiding". I'm OK with this and Barrera.

I look at the Remy saga this way. You go shopping for a big ticket item like a car. You ave a budget and you tell yourself that no matter how tempting that amazing new feature is you will NOT go past your budget. That's what I bet happened here. Sullivan & Gold decided that they would not do something that isn't financially sound regardless of what happens. So when Nice demanded the payment terms that they did, S&G had to clench their fists and not give in to the temptation to just say yes. Right or wrong, with all we see happening in the world of sport, maybe you have to tip your hat to that.

After last season all I want is to be able to watch some games without feeling sick. Can't do that to my kids again.

Let's cut through all the hype and big statements and see where we are at:
In: Thomas Hitz ... on a free (seems a good player if we keep Parker),
Probably in: Barrera guy who has stated that he is only here to use us as a stepping stone to go to another club! Ben Haim (over-valued slow aged defender) and Piguione (very poor and aged attacker).
Very probably out: Diamanti (a prized asset with very unique skills)
Kovac: Won't miss him much
Probably out to follow:
Behrami, Cole, Upson, Parker and Green (if anyone is still interested).
In the midst of all these we were linked with super captures of the new Henry from France and the new Pele from Brazil. Figure this out.
Conclusion: It's depressing!

I love the way some fans make life more depressing unnecessarily. Yes Barrera said something like 'this is only temporary' but to dismiss him because of that is insanity. What about the parts between him signing and leaving? Will we really miss Diamanti so much? I really like the guy and think Zola didn't have the first clue about how to use him, but Sir Alex and Wenger would know, yet haven't rushed to sign. Do any of us known anything Haim? and have we really watch Piq'on in detail. So quick to slate man jeez.

0849, it is a quaint and original idea I know, but football IS about scoring goals. Strangely, when they invented the rules of the game, they specified that you had to score goals to win matches! Now I know that is bloody inconvenient when you have a midfield of Kovac, Parker, Behrami and Noble, but those are the rules! Perhaps you could campaign for a rule change? Maybe passing sideways and backwards should count. Maybe completing a full circle with the ball at your feet should be awarded points for grace and style. Maybe blazing the ball over the bar should receive official recognition, with "victory points" calculated on the basis of the number of feet over the bar multiplied by the number of feet wide of the post. Boa would be our record scorer on that basis!

However, until those rule changes come into force, goalscoring remains THE key feature of the game. So, aquiring a striker who has "amassed" just 63 league goals over a whole career does not bode well unfortunately.

or you could look at it as he scored 11 in 34 starts last year and has found a league that suites his game and a manager that knows how to get the best out of him

how many goals has sears, mido, mccarthy, ilan, franco and hines scored combined in 86 game for west ham!!!!...11 goals.

6 players in 86 games can only match his goal scoring record for an average portsmouth side that went down, not better it!

give the guy a chance, he is better than what we have/had

Better than Cole?

It cannot get worse than last season..sorry, I forgot..this is West Ham. I remember last season started with a lot of expectations and hype. Remember, we could not wait for last season to begin. We predicted (confidently) that we would finnish above mid table because we had a good players plus we acquired new signings! Remember? So let the season begin and if we do well, its a bonus, otherwise, its West Ham.

1830 - you are so right = 11 in all competitions out of 34 starts isn't bad in my book - perhaps hf can look at his assists for last season as well? we could tell him, but why should we do all the work?

Anonymous said...

ofcourse not better than cole. i take it you believe we will sell cole and piquionne is his replacement?

however if we keep cole and the two of them hit it off then i believe it will be a solid partnership. something we haven't seen since marleen and bobby.

even if we do sell cole atleast we now don't have to endure a sears/mccarthy strike partnership now.

think positive

Another great post HF - again the vast majority seem to disagree. Priceless!

Hammersfan said...

Just like 99.9% disagreed with me this time last year when I warned that we would struggle to avoid relegation! Hmmmm. Now who was right? Me or those who disagreed?

Deane said...

I agreed with you last year but the facts say Piccy scored more goals than CC and if it's all about goals???????????

Hammersfan said...

Carlton scored 10 goals in Prem from 26 starts, Piquionne scored 5 from 34 appearances. Hmmmm. And Carlton aint a goal machine is he?

Seems an OK buy as a deputy to Cole rather than a partner. We still need another striker which points to Diamanti going to fund an out-and-out goalscorer. Not sure what Remy is like but Gyan looks the right type if he can be afforded. If Tal comes in it looks like Upson to go which would free up some cash for another midfielder (Marc Wilson?). Kovac was always likely to be gone. We'll still need a fullback.
