Tottenham, Liverpool and Villa in 3-way fight for Parker

Well that's it then, Scotty has kicked his last ball in anger for West Ham. With the news that 'Arry fancies him to bolster Tottenham's Chumpions League challenge, and the confirmation that Mascherano is quitting Liverpool, a bidding war for our nearly England man seems certain. And, if I was putting money on the outcome, I'd bet on him ending up with the Cockyfools.

Duxbury, of course, famously said that the days of West Ham selling players to Tottenham were over. Well, you can be sure that S&G will have no such scruples. Parker will go to whoever meets their valuation.

How much is Parker worth? Well, leaving aside that he is English and the concerns I have already expressed in this regard, I reckon £12m would represent good business. On what basis? Well he is no spring chicken, is injury prone and is limited in his ability. He is a good player but he is a long way from being a great player. That £12m could be invested in other areas of the team, especially when we have Behrami in the squad as a like for like replacement. That's assuming we don't sell Valon of course.

But how will S&G justify his sale after all they have said? The blame will be put at Parker's door. "He was desperate to play Champions League football and we couldn't deny a 30 year old that opportunity...blah, blah, blah."

Yeah i think you could be right on this one mate. I can see him ending up at Liverpool. 12-15 million would be great business for the reasons you mention. When you think Ireland could be bought for 6-8million and KPB for 5-6 then it would be a no brainer to sell him if we recieved a fee in the region you mention. I would maybe like us to buy tho before we sell him, incase we end up having to reply on Noble!!

LOL Dutch, I reckon Markie will "come again" this season in a proper midfield. I agree about KPB and Ireland as excellent alternatives, assuming Unreal City would let Ireland go. They have to keep an eye on the number of "home grown" players in the squad remember - Ireland is one of the best of them. We mustn't forget that Collison will return at some point of course. We haven't signed Ben Haim yet apparently. Maybe Avram is talking to Pompey about a double deal to bring in KPB too?

and apparently like you hf, Parker is a spud, well no not like you he really is a Sp*rs supporting spinning ballerina

If Scotty gets the choice then it wouldnt make sense to jump onto the Reds sinking ship. I could see him ending up at Spurs myself, although i would rather see 15m if that was to happen.

I think we will cope without him personally and most of us must have seen this coming despite what G&S said. He was awesome last year but with the new signings i think we have enough new creativity to cover his absense in midfield.

Let just hope we use this money to cover some of the problem areas. We have had a couple of successful experiments for RB but we still dont have a natural there.

"It's interesting that David Sullivan has given his word that Scott Parker will not be sold and I think that's absolutely what we wish to deliver to the supporters, that he's not going to be sold.
So I think Aston Villa should reconsider making any approach because the worst thing is that it's very unsettling for the player, very unsettling for the club.
I think if we wanted to sell him we'd go about it a different way but we really don't. He's the player of the year and he's very important to us in building a better team to take West Ham into a better future." - Karen Brady.

Funny how this ACTUAL QUOTE from Brady merely echoes what Sullivan himself has already said more than once...Parker's going nowhere!

I dunno, with the club currently being linked with every Tom, Dave and Henry, people are still inclined to believe in all the media hype tripe?!!

Deane... once again, "spinning ballerina"?? Doh!

Parker is a player that if he were to leave would be a sad day. He is the driving force in our midfield. Players like him are hard to come by, puts his body on the line at all points. The type of player he is obviosuly won't be around for much longer, but still feel he has alot to offer for another two seasons at least. granted he gets yellow cards all too often. All palyers have thier price even if g&s say he is not for sale. 15 million would be the minimum price I feel. and lets face it, Liverpool and spurs can't afford it, according to both clubs managers. I'd rather see a few players leave such as Kovac, Beharmi, Spector, I think in those three combined would be around the 10 mill mark. Then get in Remy up top, Clerc on a free, loans maybe needed even if not always the greatest a player but for depth, and I'd like to see a fe wmore youngsters copme through, Spence, Fry, bit more of Nouble. then good start to finish maybe be abkle to attract biger names in January, or finish in a beter postion which with the players and now manger we can. and attract more biiger names next summer.

I haven't heard that anybody wants Spector.

I don't think many players have the guts and will to dive in the feet of an opponnent and head the ball when he is getting ready to kick the ball.

And that is what Parker brings to the team. The difference between a good and great Premier League player is to a large extent whether they are willing to put themselves on the line for the good of the team.

Parker is such player. Sullivan identified this leadership quality in him and this is why he made the grant statement about Parker not leaving West Ham. Indeed, this is another reason that G&S will not be willing to let him go. They will lose credibility if they do.

So,unless we get a super - "out-of-this-world" - offer for him G&S cannot afford to let Parker go. Surely not for anything less than 15 million (despite his age).

Parker is Mr West Ham.... sweats blood for the team. A travesty if he goes. IMHO

Hammersfan said...

But he was raised at Charlton, joined Chelsea and supports Spurs! Mr West Ham? In the same way as 'Arry is Mr West Ham perhaps?

SELL VALON. KEEP PARKER.

Scotty also got the captains armband against Panathinaikos. I don't believe that he will leave the Hammers. The new players who came in so far were pretty affordable and there is no need to sell Mr. West Ham.

no one neccesrily wants spector, but does that stop west ham from tryign to offload him and offer him to clubs. soem clubs will need cover, or even championship clubs could see it as a decent capture for them.

Why not force whoever Parker goes to to take Spector as part of the deal? "You take him, Harry, or it just ain't gonna happen!"

Hammersfan said...

Trouble is, 'Arry would probably turn him into a world beater!

Deane said...

a world beater like titi camara maybe
and yes haun he spins on his own axis going nowhere far too often loses possesion far too often but he does put his body on the line for the club Personally I hope he doesn't go because he will show a lot more flair in a better team I also think that with Beharami, Noble and Collinson on the books £10mill is too good to turn down although as far as I'm aware no-one has even bid 10pence so far

Deane said...

Sorry Shaun obviously your name is not haun

Shaun said...

Deane, that's quite alright, but yeah, it would look daft with a silent 'S'!
'Spinning ballerina' is a little detrimental in my opinion.
Yes, I can see the humour intended, but the fact is, Parker possesses great ability to turn quickly in a very tight space, either away from danger or to seek another option when a pass isn't on, rather than simply 'give the ball away' with a hopeful punt! By doing so he retains possession, and that is key!

Hammersfan said...

But how often does that "spin" break up the flow of an attack and allow opponents to get back into position Shaun? I remember Villa at Upton Park 2 seasons ago doing a complete number on him by getting Petrov to close him as soon as he got the ball. Parker lost the ball time and again and was replaced at half time. That's why he is not top quality and why a succession of England managers have looked and thought, no thanks.

Shaun said...

Granted, it's not always productive, but it's a way of retaining possession and generating another phase of play which is fundamental in dominating and ultimately winning a football match! So what if the other side are back in position...they can't play if they haven't got the ball!

There's not many that 'do a number' on Parker. You selected a 2 seasons old recollection from the archives that proves nought...a one-off! Surely Petrov is an opposing midfielder who is expected to close him down if he has the ball?? What's his alternative....stand five yards off him, whistling and wondering when he's going to 'do his spin'?!

I'm surprised you use the 'England argument' to claim he's not top quality too?! I suppose you advocated Capello's selection of the Hyde Park jogger (SWP) and those two lame blokes (LK & GB) did you? What about the 'testimonial' selection of the old stager? (EH) Yeah, TOP QUALITY HF?
Yeah, I know Parker doesn't play in all of those positions, but my point is, they're JOBS FOR THE BOYS that do! Nepotism...pure and simple. Always been the same.

You don't think an England manager isn't going to pick 'his boys' do you? Well-renowned top 4 stars, with egos bigger than their salaries? Heavens above! What would the paying public or even the FA think if the Havana-puffing, Hummer-driving, Grey-Goose vodka swilling champagne-Charlies weren't given their customary routine runabout with the Three Lions on their tit?!

Parker's continued discriminatory International omission has always been and will continue to be to West Ham's benefit! C O Y I !!

Hammersfan said...

Ostrich mentality Shaun. Parker was one of those cigar smokers when at Chelsea but he wasn't good enough for England then was he? In fact, he wasn't good enough for Chelsea was he? Has Ferguson ever wanted him? Has Wenger ever tried to sign him? Have any major clubs abroad ever sought his services? Why do you think that is? Why have Parker's clubs only been Charlton, Chelsea Reserves, Newcastle and West Ham? - That discriminatrory attitude extends beyond the management of the England team it seems! Why do you think that is Shaun? Doesn't that seem odd if Parker is as good as you claim?

Shaun said...

There's no sand in my ears HF! If my mentality is Ostrich, as you claim, then yours would have to be Pterodactyl surely?!

"Why has he never played for Man Utd? Why has he never played for Arsenal? Why has he never played abroad?"
As if it's a mandatory benchmark that 'top quality' players ONLY play for those clubs or succeed on foreign soil (and there's not many that have!).
Otherwise, they ain't top quality!...that's what you're preaching is it not?

Parker has played for England at every level from schoolboys to senior.
Ranieri saw fit to persuade Abramovich to part with £10m of his loose change for a 23yr old Parker.
PFA Young Player of the Year quickly followed!
Charlton, Chelski, Newcastle and West Ham....overall....not a bad CV for a player who doesn't merit 'top quality' status?!

With Parker and Hitzlesperger in midfield I don't see the point in selling. You wont get a much more influential pairing in the premiership aside from Giggs And Scholes. Definatly want Parker to stay, even though I think he will have a much quieter season. Don't forget this is the man after almost EVERY game (the desperately poor ones in particular) that stood out as our star performer.

Hammersfan said...

This is the man who, over his whole career to date, has netted just 19 goals whilst playing as a box to box midfielder!

Deane said...

To make my viewpoint clear I don't want him to go (I don't think he will) but he is not THAT good that he is indispensable
