Sullivan & Gold Delivering on Promises!
(Submitted by Shaun)
Hmmm [shakes head]....a ball has yet to be kicked and already there are 'forecasts' of ominously dark rainclouds of doom! This, despite the fact that new signings were promised...and new signings have been delivered!
Of course, they're not the 'world-beaters' that some would have recommended...that's clear from the damning and frankly, insulting indictments of each and every one of them on certain blogs! I won't even bother reiterating the analogies, because they simply suck!
My point is...what or who exactly did the critics expect?! Don't get me wrong here...West Ham are a BIG club and should have BIG stars on the books, but the current financial situation won't change overnight! There are no sudden mystery funds available to buy the likes of Neymar, Henry, Klose etc...and even if deals for Remy and Cole DID reach fruition, they would have to be on more favourable HP terms than your old Aunty's Kays bloody catalogue!
It would now appear that the media hype regarding a Russian billionaire's investment in the club is just mist of the Scottish variety...G&S confirmed there has been no such contact. It also appears that Gold & Sullivan Independent Traders Inc are unwilling or unable to dig deep and provide huge funds for transfers from their own infinite personal cash reserves, as promised...why should they?
But what they have done, in my opinion, is not only fulfilled their promise of signings, but conducted good business in the process. That is what they do. That is what they're good at. It's not called arse-licking the owners...it's called waiting to see what they do...and on this showing their actions are speaking louder than their words. Indeed, the jury IS still out on G&S...
...But a total of £5 million outlay for Hitzlsperger (note how I spell his name correctly AND respectfully!), Barrera and Piquionne is VERY good business, with the possibility of Ben Haim in addition on a 'free'?
Some might call it 'deepening the squad' on the cheap with players that 'nobody else wants'. But then some, like me, might say 'no, happy with that....4 quality players' ....and without 'deepening' the debt in the process!
Avram's pleased as punch with the new acquisitions too...so let's hope there's a couple more 'surprises' to come...and let's get right behind the team and the manager and be positive eh?! COYI!!

What wrong with HF? Have you got a fever? You seem cheerful and positive!
Allow me to have my reservations about Ben Haim and Piquione. If having them means losing Upson and Cole then its good for the bank account and most surely bad for the team. And can you please explain to me why we have a certain Spector still on the payroll. Selling him would both improve the team and the bank account. That's what I call good business!
Don't confuse me with Shaun Sav!
Who would buy Spector Sav?
The didlo brothers have been awsome for the hammers. Thanks boys.
What a relief, I hadn't noticed that Shaun wrote that piece. Now everything is normal. Sorry Shaun. Nice piece!
Indeed, who would buy Spector? But you know if he is still selectable by the USA we may find a fool out there.
But in any case, my point was exactly that. We have something to gain by letting him go on a free (we save from not having to pay his salary and save the team from not gifting our opponnents with cheap goals).
Yeah Sav mate....peerrrlease don't confuse ME with HF!?
Thanks for posting it up HF, even though it's not actually in it's original format is it?! (cutely edited!)...and I actually laughed at the pic for once!
Sav, I can assure you I was making my point on the basis that the new boys are welcome additions rather than potential replacements, which is another reason why it's good business if we can retain the likes of Cole, Parker and Upson!
Spector is still around because he still has 12 months+ remaining on the contract he signed in late 2008, so a 'free' is not an option! Therefore, to let him go would require an interested party...are there any takers?!!
Had to adapt slightly mate as, without the context of the article you attached it to, it wouldn't have made full sense. The original, unadulterated, personal attack on poor old HF remains live!
i dont think avram grant wud be stupid enuff to play spector if hes watched tapes of all our matches last year
I hope you are right fred149. I hope you are right!
I know Shaun it may not be that easy to let Jonathan go if there are no takers but as fred149 points out we can at least make sure we don't take further risks by playing him.
Sav... by 'further risks', do you mean a risk that, should we field him, might jeopardise his sale to any prospective buyer if he were to get injured?...
...or simply the pure risk that if and when he plays, his customary gaffes will ultimately result in a negative outcome for the team?!
The latter I'm presuming?!
From a sale point of view...he is only 24...surely Ian Holloway can be tempted to take him to the seaside?! (sorry, that sounded so wrong!)
'Unadulterated, personal attack' HF?! Hardly mate...and anyway, you prove most days that your back is broad enough with the amount of abuse directed at you on here! Nil Desperandum Carberundum eh?
Shaun: Surely the latter.
However, if we do play him there is also the danger that he doesn't actually mess up as usual which may make Grant adopt the "give the guy a chance" mentality of his predecessor. That would be the worst scenario for me. If he gets injured, at least, he won't be able to play any games for us during that period.
But, really, jokes apart, Spector has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he is a liability if you keep playing him. I hope Grant is alerted to that and he does not decide to give him a new lease of life.
I am really glad the team is winning and no conceding goals, so far. Panathinaikos next week will be the real test I guess.
