Can Sears Save Us?
So, Freddie Sears is coming home! How excited are we about that? His record at Palace doesn't exactly set the pulses racing given we desperately need a goal scorer, but he has been played out of position, wide on the right, so there are excuses for his failure to score. Of course, his record in our Claret & Blue does not offer much promise either, but he is older, stronger, wiser so maybe...
How mad is it, however, that we did not insert a clause in the loan contract enabling us to recall him whenever we wanted to? Somebody should be held accountable for that but, given it was probably Duxbury, there's not much chance of that happening is there? Sears might have been useful against Pompey but he will still be plying his trade in the Fizzy Pop. Absurd!

1 goal in 46 games, that coming five minutes into his debut dosen't fill me with confidence. however he looked good against everton just after the blackburn game, he was unlucky to hit the post in that game.
but then came a bad run he just can't get out of,
i would argue he is behind nouble and dixon, judging by zolas recent substitutions probably even da costa lol
i just think his confidence is still at rock bottom having failed to score for 45 games, even when the poor lad did score for palace the ref thought it didn't go in lol. after that he was moved out wide and the last month dropped completely.
i really have no idea what we can do with him, we are not in a position to play a guy that not only can't score but has only managed 1 assist in 46 games. he is short and lightweight so he rarely wins headers so when he is not scoring he contributes a lot less than other options, in my opinion
I'm not sure, I think he could be a good player to have back. I certainly don't agree that he is behind Nouble and Dixon. And remember, Carlton Cole was still 'can't see the goal Cole' when Sears was playing for us, so perhaps with Coles ability now, and with Sears' pace, they can act as a big man/little man duo. I think if Palace gave us a payment to take him on loan then we cannot have called him back when we would have liked, however that would have meant that we could not call him back in January so who knows?
I have a good feeling about Sears and I hope he will surprise many by re-finding his scoring touch. He reminds me a little of Jermain Defoe. It doesn't matter if you are tall or short. What matters is to have an eye for goal and the means to surprise the defenders and put the ball in the net. If he is played in his position and is fed with enough balls I am sure he can pick up his old scoring habit. I hope I am right and that Zola will give him a chance to prove himself. Yes, I do beleive Freddie can help West Ham by scoring crucial goals.
it is a tough one to call. i think the biggest thing to remember is who played up front with sears when he broke into the team, dean ashton! sears looked brilliant, deano had an eye for a pass aswel as being an all round gifted player. after that sears has played alongside some very average players. when he and di michele started together last season it was one of the most inept strike partnerships i have ever seen.
however franco has impressed me with his strength, heading, link up play and movement. he seems to have a bit of everything, my point is he might be perfect foil to bring the best out of sears. definetly worth a try in my opinion.
as for who is better out of dixon, nouble and sears, i guess we haven't seen enough to judge yet. i just think 90% the battle is confidence, two have it and one has none. i think the whole point in loaning him out was to regain his confidence but i would argue he has less now than he did last year. another year without scoring even at a lower level.
i just hope zola dosn't play the lad as a lone striker because not only will we loose but the kid will get butchered at this level because the rest of the team drop off to deep and create very little for sears to feed off, we can do that with franco or cole because they win a lot in the air and have the experience to pick out an important pass, not only that but their strength and confidence in their own ability are the key, sadly sears has none of that in his locker. i would say sears comes under the tag capello gave owen, if he aint scoring its like playing with 10 men. unless you have the perfect foil around him to provide him with oportunities to score their is little point flogging a dead horse.
It's worth giving him another go but I do agree with anonymous that it will be difficult in our current predicament. I just don't understand why Dixon hasn't been given a chance yet....or Nouble even. The manner in which Hines was fast-tracked, it seems even more surprising that Dixon and Nouble haven't been given a run.

i agree with u tottaly cuz ive bee nsaying it loads with deano sears looked awesome but then sears stopped getting played but cole has turned into the sort of player ashton was strong and can hold up and pass and then franco seems like he can do a bt of everything so maybe starting sears with franco and we might see him score a bit more
